Oceanside, CA – Today, I am announcing my candidacy for Oceanside Mayor. My primary challenger is Rocky Chavez.
As a First Responder and Paramedic Educator, September 11th has special meaning for me. I know first hand what it means to put your life on the line to help others and I know that seconds can mean the difference between life and death. I’ve managed mass casualty incidents, worked extensively with the homeless, and even been shot at on scene. First responders are our first line of defense in many situations, and we owe it to them and our entire community to ensure that they have the tools and skills they need to be successful and perform their duties safely.
My wife, Jenny and I have three children who attend local schools and we are heavily involved in our community. We are very committed to making Oceanside a better place.
Over 15 years ago, we started an EMT training school together and now we work every day to teach others how to save lives. It is apparent to us that we are in the midst of the greatest public health crisis this community has ever faced and not enough is being done.
With experience in public safety and emergency management, a Law Degree and Master’s Degree in Military History, I hope to bring a new perspective and better solutions to the city.
Homelessness, firefighting, and emergency response all need immediate attention. Homelessness has tragically and dramatically increased within the past few years and not enough is being done to address the problem.
Our Fire Department is underfunded, and as a result it takes longer to respond in the event of a medical emergency or a fire. There are simply not enough stations or firefighters to keep our community safe. There is a lack of trust between some residents and law enforcement.
Our schools are massively underfunded and unsupported by city government. In the past 20 years, we have seen unchecked development which has harmed our environment and hampered our ability to provide essential services to our residents. We need smart growth and services which ensure a safe and sustainable city with more amenities for residents. We need an expanded Climate Action Plan, a true emphasis on mass transit, and enforceable measures to achieve climate stabilizing targets. So far, the Council and Mayor have failed us in this regard.
Meanwhile, our community has career politicians who put their own best interests before the needs of our community. We need term limits, a code of ethics, and local elected officials with integrity who will lead us into a brighter, safer future. We need new, innovative ideas and a Major Change.
For far too long, the City Council has sided with outsiders and disregarded the needs of our community. Personalities seem to have taken precedence over the needs of the community and progress has stalled. The problems we face now are too important to put off or ignore.
I’ve thought a lot about how to ensure that our community has the best chance at tackling these issues and after talking with my family, I’ve decided to run for Mayor of Oceanside. I will do everything in my power to fight the forces which have prevented progress in our city. I am 100% committed to doing the work required to win this election and put our community back on track.
But in order to win, I need your help right now.
Although the election appears far away, the forces we are up against are deeply entrenched and already active. We will need to raise a great deal of funds in order to be successful. These funds will be used for costs such as advertising the campaign, digital and print marketing, hiring staff, voter outreach, and other important items necessary for us to win this race.
Working together, we can completely change the makeup of our City Council and get back to representing the interests of our community. Together, we can defeat these opposing forces and win back our city.

We don’t have much time to show the strength of this campaign. Let’s work to create a new and better Oceanside in 2020. Together, let’s make Major Change.
