CECBEMS Changing Its Brand to CAPCE

On June 21, 2016, Continuing Education Coordinating Board for Emergency Medical Services (“CECBEMS”) sent a press release forward which details a change that has been in the works for some time now. The board voted for rebranding and is to be referred to as the Commission of Accreditation of Pre-Hospital Continuing Education (“CAPCE”) effective July 1, 2016.

We had been considering a change for many years and felt that the name and logo change were important to better illustrate our purpose and our mission.”

-Dr. March, MD FACEP, Chairman of the Board

The notable change to the CAPCE logo brings the change to life. The Torch of Knowledge combined with the Star of Life more exuberantly demonstrates the commission’s overall mission.

The move comes in order to align CAPCE with other organizations with the mindset of accrediting education programs offering education to prehospital providers. The accreditation drive has seen Paramedic programs across the country held to a higher standard through the Committee on Accreditation of Educational Programs for the Emergency Medical Services Professions (“COAEMSP”). These accrediting commissions seek to increase the quality of education given by providers.

It is generally hoped that this push will eventually help EMS providers to be more autonomous as an allied health profession and to give them a higher degree of credibility amongst healthcare workers across the industry. Additionally, it is likely that these bodies will increase skills sets, enabling EMTs, AEMTs and Paramedics to work beyond their current scope.
